It’s a rainy Saturday morning.

I should say something about the fact that this is my first ever actual blog post, but anything I can think of lands trite. So, there it is.

I set this blog up primarily as a landing place for all of my exported Google+ posts, which is a platform and a community that I unironically miss. The recent anniversary of the Reader shutdown announcement reminded me of my intention at the time to try something both old and new, and see if there’s still an online world to be found outside of the social media platforms.

So here we are. The grinding surreality of the global pandemic saturates everything, and we’re all waiting for the moment where we understand what comes next. We’re suffering and thriving in different ways, and to different degrees, but I suspect the most common aspect of this collective experience is this feeling of rushing down rapids in the pitch dark.

On the chance that you’ve come across this post, welcome. I’m glad you’re here, and would love to know your thoughts. Be well, friends.

  1. I miss G+ too. My incoming feed there was always full of interesting science & tech content from folks I was glad to meet — none of the scams and screeds that seem to dominate the other platforms.
Must have been doing something right.
