Skepticism is also a healthy component of intellectual objectivity, so there may be a bit of that as well for some people.
Being afraid and refuting facts because they “feel” threatening is something most people grow out of by necessity. There are usually consequences for ignoring facts, laws and etc…
However we (humanity) have finally created a state, where general accountability and sticking to facts is optional. It’s really sad.
