I’ve never cared much about “who’s your favorite Beatle” nonsense, but McCartney’s ridiculous dividing of the audience along gender lines was embarrassing.  What a pompous jerk.

Anyone who ever watched Star Trek: TNG’s “Darmok” episode knows the power of metaphor.  The idea that the national economy is like a garden (more properly an ecosystem), rather than an engine has the power to fundamentally alter how we think about our national priorities.  More importantly, it has the potential to give us better, more effective tools with which to achieve them.

It’s no coincidence that Higgs Boson looks like a pile of dry spaghetti

Since 2008, pastors of some churches have openly supported and advocated specific political candidates in sermons to members in early October in an event referred to as “Pulpit Freedom Sunday”. According to Reuters, videos of these sermons are sent to the offices of the IRS.

According to section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, the provision of the tax code from which these churches derive their tax-exempt status, a compliant organization must not “participate in, or intervene in (including the publishing or distributing of statements), any political campaign on behalf of … any candidate for public office.”

The IRS has failed to remove the tax-exempt status of these churches despite their violations of tax code. This must change, and the law must be applied equally to everyone.

The Indonesian lionfish has invaded the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico over the last 20 years, after likely inadvertent introduction.  Part of the reason it’s spread so quickly is that it hasn’t had any predators… until now.  Looks like the sharks are finally figuring out how to take these guys down.

If ever you find yourself feeling burdened by your limitations, take a few minutes and watch as Mr. Wonder takes a break from being the frontman so he can be lead back to the kit to do a drum solo.
