Here’s how you can tell how long it’s been since I used Pandora.  I started up Pandora, and the station that started by default is playing Robert Miles.

As best I can tell, in 2013 the median net income in Russia was about $800. There are about 145 million people in Russia, and the Sochi Olympics cost about $51 billion.

All together that means that the cost of these games essentially cost more than a quarter’s work for every Russian in the Federation.

I love the Google logo for the beginning of the Olympic Games!

You can see the earnest confidence in the eyes of every single one of these people, and that’s the most heartbreaking part.  There isn’t an argument here that isn’t pretty trivially refuted, so it forces me to ask what their lives are like that nobody who loves them, who cares about them, who’s concerned with their wellbeing hasn’t sat them down and explained the simple things.

I don’t doubt that they’re surrounded by love, I just wonder how neither they nor their closest nor the closest to those have anyone willing and able to help them see the real beauty of all we know about the world.
