Well, due to budget cutbacks UW has decided it’s time for me to move on. I’ll be laid off in a little less than a month. Yeah, it stinks, but new opportunities await.

There’s a joke here to be made about whether or not they’ll also ban “the Russian judge” who always seems to judge the US athlete so harshly, but this is a pretty huge deal.

The international order that we’ve lived within for our whole lives is experiencing what rocket engineers call “rapid unscheduled disassembly”. The results of such an event are generally explosive.

“If I can’t vote for Sanders, I’m voting for Trump. America will never change unless it hits rock bottom. Trump can bring us there.”

The thing that I think people who say things like this fail to grasp is that “rock bottom”, whatever it looks like, involves an at-present incomprehensible amount of actual human suffering. Actual human beings, actually starving, or made homeless, or dying. It seems stunningly irresponsible to actively work for such a thing.

“People with peanut allergies have to own that danger, not everyone else around them. They should only order food that can be physically checked with no ambiguity, like an apple for instance.”

I just want to punch this person in the mouth. It’s infuriating that so many people are so turned around on basic food safety. Here’s the deal: As a parent, it’s a heavy lift to make your young child understand that there’s a very common, very popular kind of food that can make them very, very sick. Your heart breaks a little bit every time they see something they want, that they should be excited about getting to have, and they look up and ask if it has peanuts – And you have to tell them yes.

The very least that a vendor can do is not lie to me about what’s in the food I’m buying for my kid. If I order a grilled cheese sandwich, which by default wouldn’t have peanut butter, and specifically say DO NOT PUT PEANUT BUTTER ON THIS, and it arrives with a scoop of peanut butter, then I have a legitimate grievance whether or not my kid ends up in the hospital because of their negligence.
