What in the actual hell are you doing, NBC / NBC Sports ? You invite an Olympic athlete to an interview, and you let two of your reporters walk on camera and oil his body without his consent?

That’s amazingly wrong… (and sort of borderline illegal?!)

I thought about saying something about the legality, but they’re in the Olympic Village in Brazil. I have no way of knowing what laws apply in that situation.

If he wasn’t involved in planning it, it was wrong. Is there a statement that he wasn’t aware this was going to happen? The way they asked him at the end what kind of oil it was almost indicates he knew and provided it.

He apparently provided the oil (one of the ladies takes it from his hand), but at the same time he looks very uncomfortable with the situation. Reverse the genders all around and I think it would be pretty obviously offensive, even if the hypothetical female athlete had provided the oil.

Paul Hartzer Absolutely agreed that it’s a stupid and offensive stunt no matter what the plan was, but I have to wonder if he had consented or was part of the “joke”. It sends a terrible message.

Jennifer Evans I think the fact that we’re all having to wonder if he consented is enough evidence that it shouldn’t have happened.
