Having gone through Grade School and Middle School in the US, I’ve always thought of it as more a an autobiographical children’s story about how it is to grow up here. The alternate ending where the other, jealous, reindeer beat the crap out of poor Rudolph when Santa wasn’t looking hit a little too close to home to get published.
