You can definitely win without the beer, but for high scores I think it’s necessary. The winning combo seems to roughly be beer then blue scroll, hoping that the teleport lands you in front of either another blue scroll or a late-game yellow scroll. My big score was due in no small part to a yellow scroll at level 11 taking out all the dragons and knights.

heh, it seems like it could be entirely procedural… you could store the game state in a couple of bytes. Then I could watch your winning games.
